Have you secured your spot at the 2016 Ag & Food HR Roundtable yet? You don’t want to miss it! There about as many reasons to attend this valuable HR conference as there are attendees, but the main ones our guests list year after year are:
• Invaluable networking with industry professionals
• Educational and collaborative sessions discussing problems in agricultural recruitment and retention
• A chance to re-energize from the daily grind and return to work refreshed and ready to take action
Historically, agricultural employers such as human resources professionals, recruiting and hiring managers have been the bulk of attendees at each Ag & Food HR Roundtable. This year, we look forward to seeing more than 100 in attendance along with collegiate career services professionals and association representatives from strong agricultural organizations such as FFA and AFA.
“The Roundtable is an experience you cannot really get anywhere else,” says long-time attendee and Roundtable Organizing Committee member Aubrey Freitag of GROWMARK. “It really is a unique event for tailored just towards ag industry HR professionals. Human resources professionals face unique challenges that not all industries experience. Learning from one other and hearing how others are overcoming the obstacles is always a huge takeaway for me.”
While Aubrey says all of the topics discussed are relevant and “hot,” she is most looking forward to this year’s discussion on “Creating a Compelling Story for Working in Agriculture” by Mike Pearson of Market to Market.
“It’s becoming essential to recruit more non-traditional candidates from urban backgrounds, especially as we become more specialized as a workforce,” Aubrey said. “Telling a compelling story around agriculture is crucial when recruiting top talent, especially when there is so much negative publicity facing the ag industry to overcome.”
The AgCareers.com team loves seeing familiar faces at the Roundtable each year, but we also love welcoming new guests as well. Taylor Kreck, HR Coordinator for The Maschhoffs, decided to attend this year to “build a network of resources to help make my recruiting stronger and help better my candidate pool for my team.”
Nelva Vasquez of American Dairy Co. is attending the Roundtable for the first time this year as she is new to both human resources and agriculture.
“One of the things I’d like to take from attending the Ag & Food HR Roundtable is to connect with other HR professionals and listen to their experiences and how they manage their HR departments,” Vasquez said. “I’m looking forward to meeting other HR professionals in agriculture as I’ve learned it’s a whole different world!”
