Meet Our Account Manager for Western Canada

Carolyn Lee is AgCareers.com’s Account Manager for Western Canada. She covers the west coast of Canada through Saskatchewan. Carolyn also manages partnership clients in the upper Midwest United States and handles Compensation Benchmark Review (CBR) sales in Canada. She has been with AgCareers.com for just over four years and works out of the Guelph, Ontario office.

What do you do on a day-to-day basis?

My day consists of being on the phone quite a bit, usually with our partner clients or smaller companies who sign up on the site from Western Canada. I maintain optimum customer service for all of our clients, whether by phone or email. I also spend time corresponding with our team members, especially Beth [Hales, Director of Client Relations for AgCareers.com]. Even though I also take care of CBR sales in Canada, once it’s completed, I usually pass it on to Mary [Barefoot, Director of HR Services].

What do you enjoy most about working with AgCareers.com?

It’s a very satisfying job in that I enjoy working with our partnership clients. They post all of their jobs on our site. When I hear how many people they do hire or interview through our site, it’s rewarding to really know that that’s what we do and that we deliver that service. Sometimes we’re only posting one job with the other clients, and they don’t necessarily give that feedback. I build relationships with our partnership clients and we get that feedback where I know how successful our program is for that client. Also, when I’m able to solve a technology problem, that’s pretty satisfying as well.

What advice would you give to job seekers using AgCareers.com for the first time?

I do talk to job seekers as well on the phone periodically. I would tell them to upload their resume to the database because our employers do use that frequently, but to also be active on the site and to check back often. Sometimes jobs will disappear quickly and they will miss an opportunity. Visit every couple days. Apply as soon as possible. Sometimes jobs will expire the next day and you won’t know if employers don’t post an expiration date.

What is one of your favorite memories while working with AgCareers.com?

I’ve got a few good memories, but it’s hard to not bring up the team retreats when it comes to AgCareers.com. I don’t know if this was my first retreat, but I think we were in North Carolina and doing karaoke in the hotel bar. Doing karaoke at my first team retreat was so fun. The toughest one that I sang was with Tara [Strickland, Sales Support Coordinator for the Upper Midwest US]. It was “You Shook Me All Night Long” by ACDC. ACDC songs are hard. My first team retreat was when I got to meet most of the team, and meeting everyone at that time was just fun. It was a really cool night.

In your spare time, what do you like to do on the weekends?

I love sports. As a family we do a lot of camping, but without the kids, I like to mountain bike. I’ve also been playing a lot of tennis this summer. I played with some Farms.com employees I work with. I do play field hockey as well, but I play more indoor during the winter time. When I have spare time without the kids, I like to play a sport or go for a mountain bike ride.

What’s your favorite snack and name one thing you can’t live without while working?

I love sour cream and onion chips, even though they’re terrible for you. I like to listen to music while at work. I’m on the phone a lot, so when I get down to working with documents, I like listening to music. I’m a classic rock girl. My go-to is The Band.

Favorite book and favorite movie?

My favorite movie is Goodfellas. I’ve seen it so many times. My favorite book is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I read it when I was younger and kind of identified with the female protagonist. I also really love science fiction. I love Day of the Triffids. It’s awesome. If you ever want to read a good sci-fi book, that’s one I would recommend.
